Homemade Taco Seasoning

Did you know sometimes even seasoning packets can contain gluten? There are a few brands out there that offer them, and I’m all for convenience, but there are times I have forgotten to grab a couple at the store and am left throwing some spices into my taco meat to get it just the way we like it. I think we can all attest to the fact that homemade is usually always better anyway, so I finally measured it all out and made a recipe for us all to fall back on 🙂 Feel free to double, triple, or quadruple this recipe. It stores in an airtight container for several months. I also use it to season eggs, popcorn, and tortilla chips!

Description

Double, triple, or quadruple this recipe. It stores in an airtight container for several months. I also use it to season eggs, popcorn, and tortilla chips!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt (use 1/2 teaspoon less if using fine salt)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano

Instructions

  1. Mix all spices together and store in an airtight jar or container. Use 2 tablespoons per 1 pound of ground beef, chicken, or turkey.
  2. When you are ready to use it, brown the ground meat and add 2 tablespoons seasoning. **If you would like your taco meat a little more saucy, mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1/4 cup water or broth and stir this mixture in over medium-low heat at the end.

Notes

serving suggestions: I also sprinkle this on eggs, tortilla chips, and salted popcorn!

Never Miss a Recipe!

Hi, I’m Liz!

I’m so glad you’re here! I have spent the last 15 years cooking and creating recipes for my husband who has celiac disease, and over the years I have fallen in love with the process. Welcome to the landing space where I get to share all of those tested and tried recipes with you! By sharing these recipes with you, my goal is to inspire you to find enjoyment in your kitchen and maybe even learn some new tips along the way! All  of my recipes are 100% gluten free (and dairy free optional a lot of the time too!). I am passionate about promoting cooking that speaks to a wide range of tastes and helps people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease focus on what they can have instead of what they can’t. So, go ahead, click on something that looks delicious and come cook with me!
